Discovery of the Golden Cup
One of Ghiberti's sculptures that shows he is an ideal renaissance man is Discovery of the Golden Cup. It was created during 1425-1452, and depicts the biblical story of Joseph. It is made out of gilded bronze as well. This sculpting shows the renaissance ideal of Classicism. You can tell because of the Roman arches in the background. Another ideal is realism. This depicted scene contains perspective, and shows amazingly fine detail. Each child, man, woman, horse, bag, etc. is completely separate and individual, expressions and attitudes can be seen on each of their faces. Depth is also shown so well with his proportioning. It is no wonder that Michelangelo called these panels, The Gates of Paradise. They are very beautiful and so expertly crafted.
